Here's a little something for all you E70 X5 and E71 X6 owners who know just how much space in the centre console is taken up by an obsolete and cumbersome phone cradle which no-one ever used to begin with.
If you're wanting to reclaim this storage space, you could simply remove the phone cradle completely but doing this leaves you with an unsightly hole which is bound to swallow your smaller possessions if not covered up.
BMW do sell a dedicated 'blind plate' for this very purpose (part no. 51169115083) but this comes with a heavy price tag of over $250 for a single piece of plastic. So we've made up a 3D printed copy for a fraction of the price which serves just as well as the real thing. No modifications or skills are required when installing this - just simply remove the phone cradle (two plugs and two T25 screws) and snap this in place then you're done!
Bear in mind, these are not OEM quality so fitment is a touch off in the corners admittedly, but this is a functional piece at a fraction of the price to the genuine thing.
